सुधामप्यास्वाद्य प्रतिभयजरामृत्युहरिणीं
विपद्यन्ते विश्वे विधिशतमखाद्या दिविषदः।
करालं यत्क्ष्वेलं कबलितवतः कालकलना
न शंभोस्तन्मूलं तव जननि ताटङ्कमहिमा॥

sudhāmapyāsvādya pratibhayajarāmṛtyuhariṇīṁ
vipadyante viśve vidhiśatamakhādyā diviṣadaḥ |
karālaṁ yatkṣvelaṁ kabalitavataḥ kālakalanā
na śaṁbhostanmūlaṁ tava janani tāṭaṅkamahimā ||

Oh! Devi, even the great Brahma and Indra would disappear during the deluge of time cycle although they drink the divine nectar capable of destroying the terrible effects of old age and even the death itself. But your husband Parameswara alone survives the deluge, in spite of him drinking the highly potent kalakoota poison. He doesn’t perish in time due to the greatness of your ear studs. It is the power of your chastity that keeps him alive for ever and you keep adorning those ornaments. If he were to be succumbed to deluge, as a devoted widow, you will have to remove your ear studs that are verily the Sun and the Moon and that is a situation impossible.

ന ശംഭോസ്തന്മൂലം തവ ജനനി താടങ്കമഹിമാ

അല്ലയോ ദേവീ, അതിഭയങ്കരങ്ങളായ വാര്‍ദ്ധക്യം, മൃത്യു എന്നിവയെ ഹരിക്കുന്നതായ അമൃത് നിത്യവും സേവിക്കുന്ന ബ്രഹ്മാവും ഇന്ദ്രനുമെല്ലാം മഹാപ്രളയത്തില്‍ ഇല്ലാതാകുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ അതിഭയങ്കരമായ കാളകൂടവിഷം കഴിച്ചിട്ടുപോലും അവിടുത്തെ പതിയായ പരമശിവന് കാലനാശമില്ല. പാതിവ്രത്യം കാത്തു സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നതില്‍ മാതൃകയായ അവിടുത്തെ കര്‍ണ്ണാഭരണങ്ങളുടെ മാഹാത്മ്യം തന്നെയാണിത്‌. അവയെ തൊടാന്‍ പോലും കാലത്തിനാവുകയില്ല. പരമശിവന്‍ കാലയവനികയ്ക്കുള്ളില്‍ മറഞ്ഞാല്‍പ്പിന്നെ അമ്മേ, അവിടുന്ന് വിധവയായി  അവിടുത്തെ സൂര്യചന്ദ്രന്മാരാകുന്ന കര്‍ണ്ണാഭരണങ്ങള്‍ അഴിച്ചുവെക്കേണ്ടതായി വരുമല്ലോ. അതെങ്ങിനെ സാദ്ധ്യമാവും?
