चतुष्ष्ट्या तन्त्रैः सकलमतिसन्धाय भुवनं
स्थितस्तत्तत्सिद्धिप्रसवपरतन्त्रैः पशुपतिः।
पुनस्त्वन्निर्बन्धादखिलपुरुषार्थैकघटना-
स्वतन्त्रं ते तन्त्रं क्षितितलमवातीतरदिदम्॥

catuṣṣṭyā tantraiḥ sakalamatisandhāya bhuvanaṁ
sthitastattatsiddhiprasavaparatantraiḥ paśupatiḥ |
punastvannirbandhādakhilapuruṣārthaikaghaṭanā-
svatantraṁ te tantraṁ kṣititalamavātītaradidam ||

Oh! Devi, Lord Parameswara, lord of all the living beings created the sixty-four tantras, techniques for attaining sidhis or virtues. Practicing of each of these tantras will enable Sadhakasa to beget one or two specific, limited sidhis. After having created these sixty-four distinct, powerful techniques, as if to tease everyone, Lord Siva relaxes comfortably. But Mother! Acceding to your persuasive request, he had to create yet another independent tantric technique known as Srividya Tantra. Practicing this technique would bestow in a seeker all the four virtues, the purushaarthas of life in one single step. Practicing this tantra all the four purusharthas - Dharmma, Artha, Kama and Moksha can be achieved at once.

പുനസ്ത്വന്നിര്‍ബന്ധാദഖിലപുരുഷാര്‍ത്ഥൈകഘടനാ

സ്വതന്ത്രം തേ തന്ത്രം ക്ഷിതിതലമവാതീതരദിദം

അല്ലയോ ദേവീ, ഭഗവതീ, അവിടുത്തെ പ്രഭുവും പശുപതിയുമായ പരമശിവന്‍ സിദ്ധിപ്രദായകങ്ങളായ അറുപത്തിനാല് തന്ത്രങ്ങള്‍ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ ശേഷം സകലജനങ്ങളെയും കബളിപ്പിച്ച് സ്വസ്ഥനായി നിലകൊണ്ടു. എന്നാല്‍ ഈ തന്ത്രങ്ങള്‍ ഓരോന്നിനും സാധകനില്‍ തനതു സിദ്ധികളെ മാത്രം ജനിപ്പിക്കാന്‍ മാത്രം ഉദ്ദേശിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളവയാണ്. പരിമിതങ്ങളായ സിദ്ധികളേ അവയ്ക്ക് നല്കുവാനാവൂ. എന്നാല്‍ ദേവീ, അവിടുത്തെ നിര്‍ബ്ബന്ധപൂര്‍വ്വമായ അഭ്യര്‍ത്ഥനയെ മാനിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് ധര്‍മ്മം, അര്‍ത്ഥം, കാമം, മോക്ഷം എന്നീ പുരുഷാര്‍ത്ഥങ്ങളെ ഒരുമിച്ചു നല്‍കുന്നതിനു സമര്‍ത്ഥമായ ശ്രീവിദ്യാതന്ത്രമെന്ന അതിവിശിഷ്ടമായ ഒരു സിദ്ധാന്തതന്ത്രത്തെക്കൂടി ഭഗവാന്‍ പരമശിവന്‍ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി. അത് അന്യാപേക്ഷകൂടാതെ സര്‍വ്വസ്വതന്ത്രമായി നിലകൊള്ളുന്നു.
