प्रकृत्या रक्तायास्तव सुदति दन्तच्छदरुचेः
प्रवक्ष्ये सादृश्यं जनयतु फलं विद्रुमलता।
न बिम्बं तद्बिम्बप्रतिफलनरागादरुणितं
तुलामध्यारोढुं कथमिव विलज्जेत कलया॥

prakṛtyā raktāyāstava sudati dantacchadaruceḥ
pravakṣye sādṛśyaṁ janayatu phalaṁ vidrumalatā |
na bimbaṁ tadbimbapratiphalanarāgādaruṇitaṁ
tulāmadhyāroḍhuṁ kathamiva vilajjeta kalayā ||

Oh! Devi, your lips are naturally deep red in color and you have perfect rows of teeth. When I try to find a simile for the reddish hue of your lips, I fail to accomplish that as it would be a futile attempt as trying to get a fruit from a coral vine. Although the red cucurbit fruits get their color from the reflection of light from your lips only, some people try to compare their colour to the redness of your lips. When they don’t even have any noticeable red color on their own, how can one compare the colour of these fruits to your red lips? And if you make that comparison, those cucurbit fruits will definitely hang their heads in shame as they don’t stand a chance.

പ്രകൃത്യാfരക്തായാസ്തവ സുദതി ദന്തച്ഛദരുചേ:

പ്രവക്ഷ്യേ സാദൃശ്യം ജനയതു ഫലം വിദ്രുമലതാ

നബിംബം തദ് ബിംബ പ്രതിഫലനരാഗാദരുണിതം

തുലാമദ്ധ്യോരോഢും കഥമിവ വിലജ്ജേത കലയാ 

അല്ലയോ ഭഗവതീ, ശോഭായമാനവും നിരയൊത്തതുമായ ദന്തനിരകള്‍ ഉള്ള അവിടുത്തെ അധരകാന്തിയ്ക്ക് മാറ്റുകൂട്ടുന്നത് അവയ്ക്ക് സ്വതവേയുള്ള  പ്രദീപ്തമായ അരുണവര്‍ണ്ണമാണ്. ആ അധരകാന്തിയ്ക്ക് സാമ്യം പറയാന്‍  പറ്റുമോ എന്ന് ഞാനൊന്ന് ശ്രമിക്കാം, പക്ഷെ അത് പവിഴക്കൊടിയില്‍ നിന്നും പഴമുണ്ടാകുമെന്നു പറയുന്നതുപോലെയൊരു പാഴ് ശ്രമമാണ്. അവിടുത്തെ അധരങ്ങളിലെ അരുണനിറം പ്രതിബിംബിക്കുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് മാത്രമാണ് തൊണ്ടിപ്പഴത്തിന് ചുവപ്പ് നിറം കിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. അവയിലുള്ള അരുണവര്‍ണ്ണത്തെ ദേവിയുടെ ഓഷ്ഠാധരങ്ങളുടെ രക്തശോഭയുമായി ഉപമിക്കാന്‍ ശ്രമിച്ചാല്‍ ആ ബിംബഫലങ്ങള്‍ ലജ്ജിച്ചു തല താഴ്ത്തുകയേ ഉള്ളു.
